Real Chocolate Made by Real People
Seven years in the making, chocolate still amazes me.
Chocolate is fascinating in so many ways. Treating it with respect allows you to create something that can become more than a small gift sitting next to a big one.
The way I see it, the Gesture behind a well-chosen gift is the real gift.
One of the things that drives me to make chocolate is the effect it can have on people. The surprise. The smile. The joy that comes from receiving something that feels personal.
A Whole Chain of Effort
There is a whole chain of effort behind one piece of chocolate.
From the cocoa farmer, to the chocolatier who adds personality to their creation, to the person who selects it with care, and finally to the recipient who gets to enjoy both the gesture and the creation.
My point of view is that these efforts complement each other. Every part of the chain matters, and every person in it deserves equal respect.
The Beauty of the Unrepeatable
We choose to make our chocolate by hand.
There is something therapeutic about making things by hand. It has an effect on all of us who make them, an effect that is often overlooked.
There is also a simple feeling that comes with it:
“I made this. I love it. I'm proud of it.”
We don't try to make machine-perfect chocolate. Two pieces won't always be entirely the same. Chocolate might set into a shape that we won't be able to duplicate again and we adore this.
These small differences are not mistakes we need to hide. They are part of the process, part of the people who make it, and ultimately part of Shokolá's soul.
Real Chocolate
There have been different versions of the chocolate you will try, and certainly there will be more. We will keep experimenting, learning and perfecting each new creation.
One thing we will never change is the quality of the ingredients we use and the sustainable, certified sources we choose.
We choose quality and people over profit.
We are proudly sourcing cocoa from Cocoa-Trace suppliers and making sure we create only real chocolate, with no palm oil.
We do this for our planet, but also for the people behind our chocolate, our suppliers, their families and their communities.
